Headlines
- There were 61,584 farms in Finland in 2011.
- The number of farms decreased by about 1,200 in comparison to 2010.
- The average arable area of farms was 37.4 hectares.
- The average age of farmers increased to almost 51. Farmers at pig farms and farms with a large arable area were younger than average.
- Women amounted to 11% of farmers, i.e. farm owners.
- Two-thirds of farms mainly focused on plant production and one-third on domestic animal husbandry.
- Of farms, 88% was owned by private persons and 10% by heirs and farming syndicates. Incorporated company-based farms amounted to 1%.
- Currently, dairy cattle husbandry is the most common production line in only North Savo, North Karelia and Kainuu. In almost everywhere else in Finland, grain growing is the most popular production line.
