Description

The monthly dairy statistics contain information on milk production, milk producer prices, the number of milk producers, and dairy product production volumes, domestic sales and stocks. The statistics are based on information contained in the Support Register and data collected monthly from dairies using statistical forms.

Content

The statistics contain data on the milk volumes that dairies have received from producers, the volume of organic milk, the number of milk producers, the fat and protein content of milk, and milk producer prices. There is also information on the production quantities of fresh products, butter, cheeses and powders as well as their domestic sales and stocks. Milk production volumes are presented in litres, dairy product production volumes in litres or kilograms, and domestic dairy product sales and stocks in thousands of kilos. The milk producer price is given in cents/litre.

Data collection and sources

Data for the dairy statistics is collected monthly from dairies using statistical forms. State subsidies come from the Support Register. Data is collected from all dairies – both those that receive milk from producers and those that don’t receive milk, but produce dairy products. The dairy statistics do not, however, include all of the businesses that engage in small-scale milk processing for dairy products.

Update frequency

Statistics are drawn up on a monthly basis.

Preparation and publication schedule

The data for the previous monthly reference period is available at 9 AM on the last weekday of the following month.

Full-year dairy statistics are published in mid-February.

Time series

Data is available from the 1950s onwards.
