The statistics illustrate the varieties grown in commercial apple orchards, the age of apple trees and their planting density. The statistics are compiled in compliance with an EU directive (European Parliament and Council’s Directive 2001/109/EC). In Finland, it is applied only to apple production.
Content
The statistics contain data on apple varieties in order of their importance, and must cover at least 80% of the total area under apples. The age of apple trees since planting is also given. There are five age categories: 0–4 years, 5–9 years, 10–14 years, 15–24 years and over 25 years. Planting density is also presented as the number of trees per hectare. The categories are: 400 trees/hectare, 400–799 trees/hectare, 800–1,599 trees/hectare and 1,600–2,399 trees/hectare. The time period for the statistics is one year.
